Beneath the Surface
by Eve West Bessier
I am more
or less
dominated
by solitude
My needs
unavoidable
as yes
and as deceptive
In the night
we are minnows
sleek in silver lakes
We mirror
each other
in bright
and weightless
movements
glide silent
into that space
where air and lake
must meet
Troubled by the shadows
cast beneath the surface
of contentment
unnerving as doubt
We remain unanswerable
but embrace with such conviction
