Working
Girl
by Mary Chandler Philpott
I am
trying to stay up, up; blue sky and sky high.
I hate
everything about this place.
Remember
when I was green, so very green? “Tell me about a challenging moment.” I knew
nothing and thought I knew everything. I think about that girl in her work
skirt and white blouse and blistered feet. “Take me.” Soft, silly girl. I want
to shake her and then hold her.

Enjoyably, bluntly insightful.
