             partners

             by Sister Lou Ella Hickman

as we worship in the temple of dance
we mirror how the divine flame moves. . .
while we revel in the ancient orbit of the stars
our feet echo the heartbeats of the holy . . .
             with each touch
our hands are the words and music of the earth
and with every turn of our meeting or letting go
our swirling sacred bodies sing fire
