The Crime of Erosion

by Lisa Marguerite Mora

I sit on the porch
my thumb in a book
looking up
at the white sun.
These days drift by
like the drone
of small pleasure
planes. They barely stir
the sky, mosquito
rippling pond water.
I miss the slow
spoked wheels
of summer
they glide around,
and down, glance off
the sun baked tar. Still
an impression
is made. Breeze grazes
my cheek.
Mosquito
draws blood.
I hesitate before
turning the page.
